Technical Account Manager (TAM)

Remote

Description

We are looking for a Technical Account Manager (TAM) who is part engineer and part strategic advisor. In this role, you will not just support our customers; you will embed yourself within their engineering teams to drive the adoption of automated refactoring.

You will act as the primary technical bridge between our enterprise customers and the Moderne platform. You will help architects and engineering leads navigate the complexities of mass-scale code modernization & analysis, assist in writing custom OpenRewrite recipes, and demonstrate the value of keeping thousands of repositories up-to-date and secure.

Responsibilities

1. Strategic Technical Advisory

  • Own the post-sales technical relationship with a portfolio of enterprise accounts, acting as their advocate and OpenRewrite subject matter expert
  • Partner with customer stakeholders (from VPs of Engineering to Principal Architects) to plan and automate large modernization initiatives—such as upgrading Spring Boot versions across thousands of microservices, eliminating OWASP vulnerabilities, or migrating apps off of Websphere
  • Enable customers to better understand their code at scale through use of existing and custom recipes

2. Hands-On Engineering & Enablement

  • Provide expert guidance on the Moderne ecosystem, build tools (Maven/Gradle), and CI/CD integration
  • Assist customers in developing, testing, and deploying custom OpenRewrite recipes to solve organization-specific code patterns
  • Troubleshoot complex integration issues involving the Moderne CLI, private artifact repositories, and enterprise build pipelines

3. Catalog expansion

  • Monitor new developments relevant to our customers, and proactively develop recipes for new versions of Java, Spring, Node and other widely applicable releases
  • Support and enable contributions from customers and the wider OSS community to expand recipe coverage

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in software development or a hands-on Solutions Architecture, Technical Account Manager, or other Software consulting  role
  • You must be comfortable reading and writing code
  • Deep understanding of Java, the JVM, and its ecosystem (Spring Framework, Jakarta EE, etc.). You understand how dependency management works in Maven and Gradle
  • Experience with enterprise build systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and artifact management (Artifactory, Nexus)
  • Proven track record of managing relationships with large enterprise customers, with the ability to navigate complex political and technical environments
  • Mindset for troubleshooting build failures and static analysis edge cases

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with other languages such as Javascript/Typescript, Python, .NET
  • OpenRewrite Experience: Familiarity with the OpenRewrite project, Lossless Semantic Trees (LSTs), or writing recipe visitors
  • Static Analysis: Experience with SAST tools (SonarQube, Checkmarx) or other code analysis platforms
  • Modernization Experience: Previous experience leading or participating in large-scale migration projects (e.g.,, Java 8 to 17 migrations)
