Platform Engineer

As a member of the Platform team, you will help scale OpenRewrite for Moderne to multi-repositories. OpenRewrite recipes automate security vulnerability remediations, framework migrations, code compliance and more, across a growing language and technology ecosystem. You won't just run services; you’ll be architecting the distributed systems that orchestrate the transformation of the world’s codebases. This is a role for those who love the JVM, thrive on performance tuning, and want to build the future of AI-powered, automated refactoring.

This is a remote opportunity to the US, Canada, & Europe.

• Architect the Massive: Work on the design of highly scalable systems that analyze and transform code across thousands of repositories in parallel.
• Innovate at the Intersection of AI & Code: Build expressive, AI-powered interfaces that enable complex code transformations with 100% determinism.
• Master the JVM: Deep-dive into performance bottlenecks, profiling and optimizing JVM-based services, queues, and storage system.
• Own the Lifecycle: Drive features from a loosely defined idea to a production-ready system. You’ll own the deployment, the architecture, and the "one-in-a-million" edge cases.
• Collaborate & Mentor: Partner with Product, Design, and Language teams to bridge the gap between complex backend infrastructure and a seamless user experience.
• Shape the Culture: Influence our technical direction through pragmatic architecture and by mentoring a world-class engineering team.

• You have 10+ years of experience, with a deep understanding of the Java ecosystem and its internals.
• You’ve "been there, done that" with high-throughput systems. You think in terms of reliability, throughput, and operability by default.
• You can navigate ambiguity and turn high-level vision into elegant, maintainable code.
• You excel in a 100% remote environment, valuing clear asynchronous communication and a high degree of autonomy.
• You are passionate about building the infrastructure that empowers every other developer on the planet to move faster.
